Teen killed in Chester crash identified

CHESTER, Pa. - May 10, 2010

Lanita Tiller Droz, a 2009 high school graduate and a new mom, was killed. Four friends were severely hurt, including her 16-year-old sister Brenda.

Friends and family of the crash victims have been trying to piece together what happened ever since Sunday night.

"She just turned her life around, graduated, taking care of her son," said," She just got her car."

Tiller Droz was at the wheel of the car Sunday night when it crashed. The car was heading eastbound on Route 291 at what police called "a high rate of speed." It is thought the car hit a fire hydrant, briefly went airborne and then slammed into a utility pole.

One girl was tossed out of the car by the impact. Two were pulled from the wreckage by bystanders. Two others had to be cut out of the vehicle.

At least 4 of the 5 girls had connections to Chester High School.

Police say that, so far, reports of another car with 2 Chester High students travelling nearby at the time of the accident is unconfirmed.

Family members say that Tiller Droz was out to celebrate her first Mother's Day as a new mom. Some school officials have said they thought the group was going to see a movie. Some family members thought the girls were actually on their way home at the time of the crash.

According to the Chester Police, members of the Pennsylvania State Police will arrive later this week to help reconstruct the fatal accident.
