Forty-six-year-old Anthony Floyd was arraigned early Thursday morning on charges he assaulted the woman earlier this year. Floyd retired from the department on Tuesday after being informed of the charges.
Police spokesman Lt. Frank Vanore says an investigation began in February after a female friend reported a domestic assault. Vanore says Floyd is not charged with committing any crimes while on duty.
Floyd was a member of the department for 26 years and most recently served in the narcotics unit.
A phone number for Floyd is unlisted. It was not clear if he had retained an attorney.
