Bicycle cop struck, dragged by car

BREWERYTOWN - May 21, 2010

The incident happened on Girard Avenue near 31st Street shortly after 8:00 p.m.

Police say the bike cop encountered a man driving a red Chevy.

The Chevy struck the officer and continued going, dragging the officer.

The officer shot off at least one round, but did not strike the man.

The 27-year-old driver was apprehended and is expected to face a number of charges.

There is no word yet on why the cop was trying to stop the car.

The incident caused the closure of Girard Avenue between 28th and 32nd streets.

The officer was transported to Saint Joseph's Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
