Jury convicts Pa. man of 1993 murder of NJ man

STROUDSBURG, Pa. (AP) - July 14, 2010

A Monroe County jury shortly before noon Wednesday convicted 38-year-old Gary Gerber Jr. of Edwardsville in the death of 45-year-old Robert Hagan. Authorities said Gerber stabbed Hagan five times and then slit his throat before running him over with his own car in August 1993 in Bartonsville.

Gerber pleaded guilty to killing Hagan in 2008 and then tried to withdraw the plea, which was overturned on appeal and a new trial ordered. Gerber burst into tears Tuesday as he testified that he acted as he did because he had been sexually assaulted. He said he had nightmares for days after seeing pictures of the victim's body.
