Police: 3-year-old trampled on during trolley shooting

SOUTHWEST PHILADELPHIA - July 18, 2010

At around 8:30 p.m., officials say two men got into an altercation on the SEPTA Route 13, also known as the Chester Avenue Line, trolley at the intersection of 57th Street and Chester Avenue in Southwest Philadelphia.

One of the men pulled out a gun and shot the other.

Police say this is when passengers on the trolley ran towards the front and, in the process, knocked over a female and her 3-year-old daughter.

The girl was injured from the fall.

She was transported to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia as a gunshot victim, but it was later determined that she was not shot. Police say she received the injuries after people trampled on her while running away from the shooter.

She is in stable condition.

The shooting victim was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania for a gunshot wound to the groin. He is also in stable condition.

Police say no suspects are in custody.
