Driver killed in Route 55 crash

ELK TWP., N.J. - July 22, 2010

The accident occurred around 4:30 a.m. on the northbound lanes of Route 55, just north of Exit 43 in Elk Township.

Police say 30-year-old Paul J. Ranucci of Endicott New York was driving northbound on Rt. 55 when, for an unknown reason, he lost control of the SUV. The vehicle struck the guardrail, then overturned onto the median of the highway.

Ranucci was partially ejected in the roll over. He was pronounced dead at the scene around 7:00 a.m.

Three children who were also in the car, ages 4, 7 and 9, were taken to Kennedy Hospital with minor injuries. Ranucci is believed to be their father.

Police are trying to determine what led to the accident.
