NJ state police chief gets speeding ticket

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - August 18, 2010

Col. Rick Fuentes was traveling northbound in an unmarked state police-issued black Chevy Tahoe on the Garden State Parkway when a trooper stopped him in Paramus around 11:30 a.m. Friday.

Capt. Gerald Lewis, a state police spokesman, said Fuentes was going 75 mph in a 65 mph zone. But the trooper - identified only as a veteran with more than 20 years on the force - didn't realize he was pulling over another officer and didn't issue a ticket.

But Lewis said Fuentes later contacted his department's Office of Professional Standards to report the stop and request a ticket, which will cost him $160.

Fuentes also will receive a written reprimand as a disciplinary action.
