Franklin Township police say it's not yet clear what caused the five-car pileup in the Somerset County community, which occurred around 12:20 p.m. on Route 27, just north of Cortelyous Lane.
The crash forced the closure of a stretch of Route 27 in both directions, while emergency crews tended to the injured and worked to clear cars and debris.
Some of the injured were taken to area hospitals, but all were expected to be released by late Saturday night.
