Witnesses say the 10-year-old - identified only as a Philadelphia area resident - was hanging on the hoop's rim when it broke around 6:45 p.m. Saturday at the Grande Woods Trailer Park in Middle Township.
Authorities told The Press of Atlantic City that the boy sustained a serious chest injury and facial lacerations.
He was flown by helicopter to Cooper Medical Center in Camden, where he remained on Sunday. But further details on his injuries were not disclosed.
