Fifty-one-year-old Lorenzo Carter entered the plea Tuesday at his arraignment in state Superior Court in Mays Landing.
He's charged in a March 30, 1980 shooting near his Atlantic City home that killed one man and wounded another.
He was captured Feb. 22 in Brooklyn, N.Y., by the U.S. Marshals Service.
Authorities say he's believed to have used more than a dozen aliases while he was on the run.
Superior Court Judge Robert Neustadter set bail at $2 million.
