The blaze broke out on Wednesday morning at around 1:00, at the Gloria Dei Manor home on the 700 block of Welsh Road in Lower Moreland Township.
When firefighters arrived they found flames spitting out of the building's trash compactor.
Crews quickly extinguished the fire, but not before smoke spread through much of the building.
Residents stayed at the other end of the building until the smoke cleared.
There were no injuries and no word yet on the cause.
