Police say the accident happened at the intersection of Prides Crossing Drive about 6:20 a.m. Tuesday. A car driven by 20-year-old Jason Potter of Newark was traveling west on Route 4 when Potter lost control, drove into the center grass median and hit a tree.
Potter's car entered the eastbound lanes of Route 4 and hit a car driven by 26-year-old Tabitha Bendel of Newark.
Police say Potter was partially ejected from his car and was pronounced dead at Christiana Hospital. Bendel and her two passengers were treated and released.
