Philadelphia police officer arrested for DUI

PHILADELPHIA - January 11, 2011

Philadelphia Police Officer William Haviland was arrested Tuesday for an incident that occurred on November 7, 2010.

Police say on that November day, Officer Haviland was on duty and consumed alcoholic beverages inside a bar located on the 7100 block of Torresdale Avenue. He was then seen driving a marked police vehicle.

After an investigation by the Department's Internal Affairs Bureau and the Philadelphia District Attorney's Office, Haviland was charged with Driving under the Influence, Reckless Endangerment, Misapplication of Entrusted Property of Government or Financial Institutions.

Haviland, is 42 years old and a 7- year veteran of the department assigned to the 26th District.

Philadelphia Police Commissioner Charles H. Ramsey has suspended Haviland for 30 days with the intent to dismiss.
