The shooting occurred shortly after 9:00 p.m. along California Avenue near route 9.
Upon arrival, police and fire personnel retrieved and transported one gunshot victim to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center city division for treatment.
SWAT units were called in to try and locate the shooter who is believed to be armed with a rifle.
There is no word what prompted the shooting, but police shut down approximately a mile stretch of route 9 during the investigation.
