Man killed in Upper Moreland hit and run

UPPER MORELAND, Pa. - January 23, 2011

Authorities were called out to the 500 block of South Warminster Road near Surrey Road around 2:35 a.m. where they discovered a male victim that was struck and partially dragged down Warminster Road.

The unidentified male victim was pronounced dead at the scene by medics.

The unidentified victim is described as Latino male somewhere between 20-30 years of age.

Authorities believe the victim was walking in the roadway near Mill Road when a vehicle struck him and fled the scene.

The victim was in possession of a black backpack and a MP3 player, similar to an iPod, when he was struck.

Upper Moreland police are asking for the public's help in locating a teal colored sedan with a broken passenger side mirror that was broken off and found at the scene.

They are attempting to locate any potential witnesses to this incident and are asking if anyone has information concerning this matter, including the identity of the victim, to contact the Hatboro Police Department at 215-675-2832.

The striking vehicle turned onto Byberry Road and drove through a local housing development according to police at the scene.

Upper Moreland police have not been able to determine if a second accident that occurred nearby on Byberry Road and Fitzwatertown Road are related. In that accident, which occurred around the same time, a vehicle that slammed into a utility pole was found with no occupants around.
