Officer investigating murder, gets bitten by pitbull

WEST PHILADELPHIA - March 4, 2011

Police were called to a home on the 5000 block of Westminster Avenue late Thursday night, where neighbors reported hearing gunfire.

When officers walked into the house they found the bullet-riddled body of a 40-year-old man lying on the floor.

He was rushed to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where he was pronounced dead.

During the investigation in the house, a pitbull attacked one of the officers.

The officer shot and killed the dog.

The officer was taken to the hospital, where he was treated for dog bites, then released.

The killer who gunned down the man remains on the loose.

Homicide detectives have not yet indicated if they have any motives or suspects in the case.
