6abc Loves the Arts:Peter Nero and Robert Klein

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -March 13, 2011

"/*Robert Klein*/ is a comedian who I've admired for so many years and actually he's the first comedian, with one exception, that we've had in the 32 years of our existence so this should be an interesting combination," said Peter Nero, Artistic Director & Conductor of The Philly Pops.

The Pops will play parodies on well-known pieces. One Nero has entitled Scratch my Bach, while Robert Klein will play and sing his comedic routine with orchestral accompaniment.

Nero says, "He (Robert Klein) has a thing where he plays the harmonica and the orchestra accompanies him on a real funky blues, and he keeps on stomping his foot and when he gets to the third chorus, I think, of the blues the lyric changes to "I can't stop my leg."

"It's really very sophisticated humor and I think our audience is very sophisticated," added Nero.

While it's been decades since the Pops have paired with a comedian, Klein has performed with a number of other symphony orchestras.

Nero says, "And he's been a hit every place he's gone."

/*Peter Nero*/ and the /*Philly Pops*/ 'Music and Comedy' concert runs March 30th through April 3rd. Go to http://phillypops.org/ for times and tickets.
