Ocean County is going to court to fight a lawsuit filed by homeless advocates seeking to force the county to open a shelter.
The county's lawyer told a judge on Monday that officials believe programs provided through the Human Services Department and the Board of Social Services more than satisfy requirements to assist the poor and needy.
Attorney Jeffrey Wild, who represents some of the homeless, told the Asbury Park Press he's disappointed the county is not willing to discuss the issue.
The case stems from a lawsuit that Lakewood filed last summer to remove a so-called Tent City homeless encampment.
The judge will hear arguments on April 29.
