Authorities say the man fit the description of a man spotted earlier with a gun when they chased him Friday morning in North Philadelphia.
Police say the officers and suspect tumbled to the ground during the arrest and the man's gun discharged, striking him in the groin. He later died at a hospital.
The suspect's name has not been released. He is said to be an 18-year-old Philadelphia man whose last known address was on Mckinley Street.
The officers were unhurt.
