Police say just past midnight on Friday, one man tried to rob another man along the 4700 block of Loring Street in the Mayfair section of the city.
Investigators have not yet said who opened fire first, but do say that both men pulled guns and started shooting.
One man suffered a bullet wound to the head. He is in critical condition.
The other man was shot in the hand, and is in stable condition.
Police have not said which man is the victim and which one is the suspect.
