Bold burglar targeting Bucks County communities

YARDLEY, Pa. - May 5, 2011

He has broken into more than a half-dozen high-priced homes in Upper Makefield, Lower Makefield and Newtown Townships. He has made off with jewelry, electronics and cash, police said.

The burglar is bold. A home security system didn't stop him from breaking into Edwin Hill's Newtown home Wednesday afternoon.

"He was able, craftily enough, to find a way to unsecure the locking system and enter the home," said Hill.

Police responded, but the thief was gone. Hill is fortunate. Nothing of value is missing from his home.

"It does not appear he got away with much," Hill told Action News. "He ransacked a couple of bureaus in our master bedroom. It appears he was looking for something."

Police says the criminal stole jewelry, computers, and other electronics from homes in Yardley, Washington Crossing, and Newtown. In all the cases, it appears the burglar tries to gain access through locked windows or doors.

"We think it's probably just one person that went on a spree and hit all these houses, probably one after another," said Lower Makefield Police Chief Kenneth Coluzzui.

The suspect tried to break into the house next door to Frank Frye. Only his neighbor was home. He watched as the thief surveyed the house through a back sliding glass door.

"The only thing is, he shouldn't mess around here," said Frye, "because we carry guns. The lady said she'd blow him away if he got inside the door. She would blow him away."

The suspect is described as a white male in his 40s with short cropped hair. Police say he may be driving an older model blue car. Anyone with information is asked to call Lower Makefield Police at (215) 493-4011.
