Philly mayor captures primary, GOP race tight

PHILADELPHIA - May 18, 2011

The Republican primary race between former school teacher Karen Brown and real estate agent John Featherman remains tight early Wednesday.

Nutter captured 75 percent of the vote in the Democratic primary, fending off T. Milton Street, the colorful older brother of Nutter's predecessor.

Nutter would be a heavy favorite over whoever captures the Republican nomination, but the race could get more interesting between now and November. Nutter's predecessor, John Street, recently switched his affiliation to independent and could be weighing a run for a third term.
