Police said a man in his mid-50s was getting out of his car in 5400 block of North 3rd Street in the Olney section of north Philadelphia at about 9:50 a.m. Saturday when another man robbed or tried to rob him, stabbing him twice in the chest. The victim was pronounced dead about 20 minutes later.
Authorities say the suspect jumped onto a bicycle and fled five or six blocks but was followed by an eyewitness, who saw him go into the basement of a home.
Police found the suspect holding a butcher knife and ordered him to drop it. Instead, they say, he lunged at the officers, who shot and killed him.
