A mother wants closure for son's murder

PHILADELPHIA - May 28, 2011

"I'm a mother on a mission to find out who killed my son," says Vonda Bowser.

Vonda Bowser has not given up finding the person who took Linwood away from her and from the son he will never get to know.

"I'm a grandmother. He has a son he'll never get to see. He will be one in November," Bowser said. "He's six months old."

On Sunday, May 2, 2010, 20 year old Linwood Bowser, who went by the nickname "Wood", was with friends across from his mother's house on the 2700 block of West Jefferson Street in Brewerytown.

At 12:45am, shots rang out, and a friend yelled out to Wood's mother that her son had been hit.

He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

A city surveillance camera at 28th and Jefferson was not working at the time.

No one has come forward with any information on the shooter.

His mother misses him dearly.

"Not to see him come through the door, 'Hey Mom'. Every day when he left, he would say, 'I love you, you need anything'. He made sure he told me that every night," said Bowser. "So it's hard."

The Citizens Crime Commission is offering a $2,000 reward to bring the killer to justice. It may not bring Wood back, but his mother says it will bring some measure of closure.

"It will give me some peace knowing that the person who did this is not still on the street that's going to harm somebody else," Bowser said.

If you have any information that might help capture the person who killed Linwood Bowser, police what to hear from you. Make that anonymous call to the Citizens Crime Commission at 215-546-TIPS.
