South Jersey towns report beach tag sales up

BEACH HAVEN, N.J. - June 28, 2011

The Press of Atlantic City found the biggest increases over last year were in Avalon at 9 percent, Beach Haven at 7 percent and Sea Isle City at 6 percent.

Margate and Barnegat Light saw decreases of less than 1 percent and Ventnor reported beach tag sales were flat.

Long Beach Township has already raised $1,237,830 in beach tag sales of the $1,485,000 it anticipated for the year.

Officials aren't sure what's driving the sales.

Longport Chief Financial Officer Jenna Kelly told the newspaper people might be staying closer to home because of the economy.
