$2,500 reward for info in death of Collingdale store owner

COLLINGDALE, Pa. - September 1, 2011

This comes as police continue investigating the death of 34-year-old Yogesh Bhavsar, known to everyone in Collingdale as "Yogi."

The grate is still down on the store where he was shot and killed on Wednesday during a robbery.

A memorial is growing outside as they remember a man they called "great" and "generous."

"Yogi was one of a kind, he was a great man. He would give you anything that would help. If you needed something, he would give it to you," Anthony Mateu of Collingdale said.

Police believe at around 4:45 p.m. yesterday afternoon one or two suspects came into the Best Convenience Store in the 500 block of MacDade Boulevard to rob the place and shot Bhavsar during a struggle.

"He put up a fight and during the course of that fight he was shot in the chest, appeared to be one shot, shot in the right side of his chest, exited the left side, and it killed him," Collingdale Police Chief Robert Adams said.

Police think the suspect or suspects got away with some cash.

Bhavsar's body was discovered behind the counter by a customer.

There was a surveillance camera inside the store and police are working to recover the video.

Beginning at 4:00 p.m. Thursday, Collingdale police handed out leaflets to motorists seeking information or clues in the murder.

"Just trying to work with the neighborhood and the neighbors, hopefully, somebody saw something very minute, partial license tag, somebody running out of the store," Adams said. "Somebody had to see something."

Anyone with information is asked to call the Collingdale Police Department at 610-586-0502.
