SEPTA driver shot, drives bus to hospital

PHILADELPHIA - September 7, 2011

The shooting happened just after 11:00 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Snyder and Vare avenues.

Police say the operator of the Route 79 bus was shot in what they believe was an attempted robbery. The gunman shot through the door of the bus, hitting the driver in her right arm.

The driver then drove herself to The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Her injuries are said to be non-life threatening.

There were no passengers on the bus at the time of the incident as the driver had just started her shift at the time of the shooting.

The gunman remains on the loose.
