4 dismissed FAMU students still taking classes

University officials told the school's board of trustees on Wednesday that they were forced to suspend disciplinary action against the students after state police asked them to stop any action until a criminal investigation is finished.

The four FAMU students were dismissed following the death of drum major Robert Champion on Nov. 19. He died aboard a band bus following a football game against rival Bethune Cookman.

Investigators say hazing played a role in the death of Champion, who vomited shortly before he became unresponsive.

The 26-year-old drum major's death led to the firing of FAMU's band leader and the temporary shuttering of the band.
