Fmr. scout leader charged with child sex assault

WEST NOTTINGHAM TWP., Pa. - December 16, 2011

Matthew Lewis is charged in several cases involving scouts as young as 11 years old.

Many of his alleged advances on young boys, investigators say, occurred at the Horseshoe Scout Reservation.

One boy told investigators that, in the summer of 2006, Lewis lured him into seclusion, away from the other scouts, and asked him to expose himself.

The same affidavit of probable cause describes a similar incident at the Horseshoe Scout Reservation in the summer of 2007.

At Lewis' home on Friday a woman in her late 20's answered the door..bus slammed it quickly.

Lewis remained at large on Friday evening.

The leadership of the Chester County scout council says they became aware of the allegations against Lewis last summer and dismissed Lewis from their ranks immediately.

"It is shocking. At the same time, we're proud of the members who reported it and the leaders that immediately took action," said Tom Dintamin of the Chester County Boy Scouts Council It was the scout council that notified State Police, which launched the investigation.
