Trio sentenced to prison for fatal ballbark attack

PHILADELPHIA - December 20, 2011

Francis Kirchner was sentenced to 16 years, Charles Bowers was sentenced to five to 10 years and James Grove was sentenced to 2 to 4 years behind bars.

All three men could have faced up to 40 years in prison for the July 2009 death of David Sale Jr.

The men pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in October.

Authorities say Sale and a group of friends were at a stadium bar when they had an altercation with the defendants over a spilled drink.

Both groups were kicked out of the bar but the confrontation escalated in the parking lot, where the men got into a fight and Sale was beaten and killed.
