Say I love you with foods

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - February 9, 2012

Real or imagined, these foods become more popular around Valentine's Day, and a Center City restaurant will be serving as many as possible in one sitting.

Day by Day is known mainly for lunch and weekend brunch, but City Food Tours has leased the premises for its Aphrodisiac Dinners Friday and Saturday nights this weekend, then again on Valentine's Day.

On the menu, some 15 foods associated with love. Many people have heard talk of oysters having a certain "power".

Other foods associated with love include citrus fruit, asparagus, nuts, hot peppers, pomegranates and ginger.

Some foods are spicy-hot and induce both physical warmth and a little perspiration, which can enhance romantic feelings.

Asparagus is known to contain substances that could change sexual performance, but you'd have to eat about a quarter of your body weight to see such a change.

In the process, you probably wouldn't feel up for anything but rest. Chocolate has been known to prompt release of endorphins...pleasurable-feeling chemicals in the body. So there's some truth to the physical power of aphrodisiacs. But their bigger effect is psychological.

City Food Tours is offering three-course dinners featuring 15 foods on Friday, February 10, Saturday, February 11, and Tuesday, February 14...all at 6:00pm. The cost is $50.00 per person, including the meal, a presentation on the foods, and lots of fun "extras".

For more information visit, City Food Tours or call 215-546-1234, ext., 114. Day by Day is at 21st and Sansom Streets in Center City, usually open for lunch and brunch, but often leased for dinner parties like this one. They also do catering.
