Delaware teacher faces child welfare charges

LAUREL, Del. (AP) - February 11, 2012

The News Journal of Wilmington reports that Nyazina Custis, a teacher at North Laurel Elementary School in Laurel, turned herself in on Friday and faces charges of unlawful imprisonment and endangering the welfare of a child.

Police say the 61-year-old Custis tied the two fourth-grade students' hands behind their backs with neckties on Wednesday after they apparently failed to follow instructions. A police spokesman says Custis, who was reported by another teacher, has been suspended from work pending an investigation.

No phone listing for Custis could immediately be found Saturday.
