FBI: Silver revolver bandit caught on camera

PHILADELPHIA - February 14, 2012

The suspect has held up at least four stores. In one robbery, he was caught on video surveillance, waving a very scary looking gun.

It's a long-barrelled chrome or silver revolver and it's not a fake. The police say he fired off shots during one of the robberies.

The clerk who found herself staring down the barrel of this gun says she had to beg for her life when he threatened to kill her. She doesn't want her face shown, fearing he might come back.

The robbery spree started November 2nd at a corner store in the 3600 block of Frankford Avenue.

Since then he has hit at least three other stores: a Dunkin Donuts in the 700 block of East Girard Avenue, a convenience store in the 1100 block of East Susquehanna Avenue, and most recently, a 7-Eleven store in the 1100 block of East Luzerne.

The manager at the Frankford Avenue store was able to escape, leaving the gunman locked inside. He then shot his way out.

"He fired the weapon approximately three times toward the street, a further example of how dangerous this person is because it could have hit someone passing by," said Special Agent John Kitzinger of the FBI. "He was able to shatter the glass and escaped through the door that way."

So, far, no one's been hurt.

The FBI and Philadelphia Police Joint Task Force is anxious to get him of the streets. They fear it's only a matter of time before he shoots someone.

They want you to take a close look at the surveillance video they released and help them identify the suspect.

He is described as an Hispanic man in his late 20's or early 30's, about five and a half feet tall and about 150 pounds.

"We believe someone out there knows this individual and we're asking for the public's assistance to identify him," Kitzinger told Action News.

If you think you recognize the suspect, you are asked to call Philadelphia Police.
