5 loaded guns found in van at Atlantic City casino

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. - February 21, 2012

It was around 9:45 a.m. Tuesday when the Atlantic City Fire Department was called out to a report of a vehicle that was leaking fuel at the Bally's Casino parking lot on the 1900 block of Pacific Avenue.

Firefighters received word that someone may have been sleeping inside, so they opened an unlocked rear door to find a rifle. Firefighters notified officers on the scene when, police say, 54-year-old Dale S. Ewell from Terre Hill in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania walked up and said it was his van.

Ewell was arrested and charged for unlawful possession of weapons.

Police say Ewell cooperated with police and indicated that he had other weapons in the vehicle. In all, police say, five weapons were recovered from the van - two handguns, two rifles and one shotgun.

All the weapons were loaded, police said.
