Pa. jobless rate falls again, to 7.6 percent

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) - March 1, 2012

After a recent revision to the state's month-over-month rates, it's the fifth straight monthly drop in the closely followed economic indicator.

The state Department of Labor and Industry said Thursday that the number of people working or actively looking for work dropped fractionally and now stands at about 6.4 million.

Meanwhile, the department said the number of nonfarm jobs dropped by 9,000, and stands at 5.7 million.

The national unemployment rate was 8.3 percent in January.

Pennsylvania payrolls dropped below 5.6 million after the recession began in December 2007. But Pennsylvania still has fewer jobs than it did in 2000 and remains below the peak of 5.8 million jobs in 2008.
