Pa. gov asks panel to assess future of higher ed

HARRISBURG, Pa. - March 12, 2012

The high-powered, 31-member advisory committee held its first meeting Monday. It includes the presidents of several top universities and representatives of private colleges, technical schools, businesses and law firms.

Corbett has advocated slashing state funding for higher education in each of his first two years in office, though he did not mention that in his brief speech.

He asked the panelists to make recommendations for long-range policy changes that will help guide students of the future into good-paying jobs. He said one worthwhile step may be to go "back to the future" and emphasize training in technology and the trades.
