The accident happened around 5:00 a.m. in the southbound lanes of I-295 near milepost 50.5.
New Jersey State Police say their preliminary investigation suggests that a 2008 Volkswagen Jetta, driven by 20-year-old Elysia Jankowski of Hamilton Township, was in the right lane of the highway when she lost control and struck a Volkswagen Beetle in the center lane.
The impact sent the Beetle careening off the roadway and into the woods.
The driver of the Beetle, identified as 60-year-old William Little of Willingboro, suffered multiple injuries and was transported to Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton in critical condition but is expected to survive.
Eylsia Jankowski was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated. Additional charged are possible.
