EMMAUS, PA.; March 27, 2012

Walking is one of the easiest things you can do to get or stay in shape. And Prevention magazine says Philadelphia is one of the best plasces to do it.

The magazine has issued its 2012 list of 'most walkable cities,' putting Philadelphia at number 9.

Cambridge, Massachusetts, and New York City were #1 and #2 on the list.

Philadelphia scored 74 out of 100 points on Prevention's evaluation. The cities are judged on the ability to find provisions and entertainment on foot.

The city was cited for a number of assets which encourage walking, and is developing more walking places for people of all ages.. The magazine says Center City has the largest pedestrian sign system in North America. It also cited Philadelphia's 100,000 acre park system.

And it says the newly-renovated Sister Cities Park, which is due to open this spring on Logan Square, will give people even more incentives to get out on foot.

The park will have attractions like a family-friendly café, children's discovery garden and play area, and a fountain commemorating Philadelphia's global sister cities.
