Bucks Co. woman found guilty in husband's murder

DOYLESTOWN - May 18, 2012

Dorleen Burkland showed no emotion as she was hauled off to prison on Friday. Moments earlier she was convicted of 1st degree murder in the death of her husband Michael back in October 2010.

Authorities say Burkland shot him eight times in their rural home. She claimed self defense, citing years of physical and sexual abuse.

Prosecutors disagree, claiming that the possibility of losing their home in divorce proceedings is what made Burkland turn to murder.

"This jury listened closely to the testimony and saw through her false claim of being abused and saw her for what she really is - a cold blooded killer," said Assistant District Attorney Michelle Henry.

The couple's 20-year-old son Gabriel testified on his mom's behalf saying she was in fact abused by his father and should not be on her way to prison.

"I saw him as a very ominous figure. He was not a good man," said Gabriel.

With the guilty verdict, Burkland will be sentenced to life in prison without the chance of parole.
