Hit-and-run on Roosevelt Boulevard leaves woman critical

NORTHEAST PHILADELPHIA - March 24, 2013

The incident occurred around 11:05 p.m. Saturday at Roosevelt Boulevard and Garland Street.

A witness tells police a 49-year-old woman was standing near the driveway of the Days Inn hotel.

Police say that is when the driver of a vehicle lost control, crossed through the right lane of traffic and struck the female on the curb.

The impact propelled the woman approximately 15 feet to the corner of Garland Street.

The vehicle proceeded to strike the hotel's fence, knocking a portion of it down.

Police say the driver initially stopped, but then took off, fleeing the scene.

The witness was unable to identify a tag, but describes the vehicle as a possible Chevy Venture 2009 tan minivan.

The witness called 911 and stayed with the victim who was transported to Albert Einstein Medical Center in critical condition.

The woman suffered head trauma, a broken leg, ruptured spleen and internal injuries.
