Man sentenced for shooting girlfriend at NJ diner

FREEHOLD, N.J. (AP) - April 20, 2013

Monmouth County prosecutors say Jermaine Foster of Plainfield must serve nearly 17 years of the sentence imposed Friday before he becomes eligible for parole. He was convicted earlier this year on attempted murder and weapons charges stemming from the February 2011 shooting in Hazlet Township.

Prosecutors say the 35-year-old Foster went to the diner where the woman worked and they argued about her desire to end the relationship. They then went outside, where Foster took out a handgun and shot the woman in the face, neck, arm and upper torso.

Foster then fled the scene and was arrested several hours later in Linden.
