Delaware's senators support Pres. Obama's plan on Syria

DOVER, Del. - September 1, 2013

Democratic Sen. Tom Carper tells The News Journal he's inclined to support President Barack Obama's request for congressional authorization for a military response.

He says he will further review the intelligence to help guide his decision. Carper says the U.S. goal should be to weaken Assad militarily and strengthen moderate forces.

Democratic Sen. Chris Coons says the U.S. should take "decisive action" in response to the apparent use of chemical weapons. He says he agrees with Obama that the U.S. should avoid any open-ended military commitment.

Rep. John Carney says he supports Obama's decision to seek congressional approval but is "extremely wary" of another overseas conflict.
