"He identified himself as SPCA of New York City," said Officer Lance Kelly, of South Hackensack Police Department. "His hands were shaking and he was sweating which raised our suspicions."
Scott Geddes' Ford Taurus was outfitted with a full police package and New York plates covered by a plastic shield, police said. A motel clerk said Geddes, of Lynbrook, N.Y., identified himself as a cop.
But the plates didn't trace back to any law enforcement agency. South Hackensack police Capt. Robert Kaiser said Geddes' car had multiple antennae and strobe lights like the ones on a police or detective vehicle.
"Next to the mirror you can see a camera. We're still investigating what was on that," said Kaiser. "That's a police radio with a microphone."
He had other identification items in his pockets, including one from the New York City Police Department and another from the Los Angeles Police Department, police said, as well as a loaded .357 Magnum weapon in his waistband. Police said a search of the car uncovered more IDs and badges, laminating equipment, a bulletproof vest, handcuffs, pepper spray and other weapons.
According to the Bergen Record, Geddes is charged with impersonating a police officer and may face weapons charges. His first appearance will be Monday morning at 10.
