BUCKINGHAM TWP., Pa. (WPVI) -- A moving plane ended up underneath a parked plane after a crash on Monday afternoon at Doylestown Airport.
The crash happened around 12:21 p.m.
The FAA says a pilot was attempting what's known as a 'go-around.' That's when a pilot discontinues a landing attempt, then returns to the air to make another attempt at a landing.
Something went wrong and the plane crashed, leaving it stuck under another plane.
Three people in the moving plane suffered minor injuries and were taken to the hospital for treatment. The parked plane was unoccupied.
Veteran pilots Dale Shafer and Hank Diekman were at the scene just after the crash.
"Two airplanes have a lot of damage I'll tell you that," Shafer said.
"A lot of blood, a lot of cuts, but they'll survive," said Hank Diekman of Upper Southampton.
They know this crash could have been a lot worse.
"I thought he would have an explosion if he went into the hangar, but he hit the plane. Good thing he didn't hit the hangar, there were a lot of planes in there," said Diekman.
Diekman, who's been flying since 1950, believes weather played a role. There was a strong wind blowing across the runway, and he says other pilots had complained about turbulence.
"To my estimation, it was a bad day. There was an awful crosswind," he said.
No final determination has been made as to what caused the crash. Investigators from the NTSB and the FAA are expected to be out at the scene.
