BENSALEM TWP., Pennsylvania (WPVI) -- Police in Bucks County have been on a wild goose chase for the last few weeks.

More accurately, they've been on a wild hog chase.

Authorities in Bensalem Township are on the lookout for an elusive pig that has been evading capture. Residents in the area say they've seen and fed the pig, but haven't been able to capture it.

"He is a cute pig, as far as pigs go," resident Vicki Shaup told Action News.

Shaup saw the pig on Monday while out on her usual walk. At first, she said she thought it was a dog, until she got a little closer.

"I saw the spots on it. I thought it didn't look like a dog. I'm like, 'I think that's the pig that everyone's been looking for,'" she recalled.

Shaup said while she wasn't sure what to do, the pig seemed friendly.

"He didn't make any noises, he just wagged his tail at me and smiled with this little, whatever that's called -- a snout," she explained.

The pig -- dubbed Oscar by neighbors -- was last spotted off of Bensalem Boulevard and Flushing Road, according to local leaders.

Police are asking that if anyone sees Oscar to call the non-emergency number at 215-633-3719.

Officers say they worry the animal may accidentally wander into a roadway or be impacted by the increasingly cold weather.

"I'm worried about the pig. I'll tell you that someone is going to do something to the pig because people are making all kinds of bacon jokes," said Shaup.

Once in custody, officials say the pig will be taken to a rescue, checked by a veterinarian, and put up for adoption.
