PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania (WPVI) -- In 2005, Danny Rumph passed away while playing the sport he loved.
The Philadelphia athlete had just finished a pickup match when he experienced sudden cardiac arrest from an undiagnosed heart condition.
He was just 21 years old. And since then, 21 years have passed.
Since 2006, his friends and family have hosted the annual Danny Rumph Classic in his memory.
The weekend of basketball matches and youth programs is being held at Drexel University's Daskalakis Athletic Center. It continues until the evening of Monday, August 10, 2026.
The Daniel E. Rumph II Foundation prides itself on raising awareness for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), CPR and AED education, and more.
