Nashville police got a tip that cars were pulling up to pumps at a service station after business hours.
Officers suspected drug dealing, but police say it was a slow-motion gasoline rip-off.
According to detectives, the gas thieves said they had been taught how to make the gas flow free, but very slowly.
Two men were cited on theft charges.
Police also told the gas station managers how the free gas scheme worked.
