Some may consider the term "redneck" a stereotype for crude and uneducated, but a small borough in Carbon County plans to make it the basis of a celebration.

Planners in Weissport, population just over 400, envision an Aug. 30 and 31 celebration drawing 10,000 people.

They say the celebration would include lawn mower and toilet races. Women would compete in Daisy Duke cutoff shorts and men would compete to be crowned "Mr. Redneck."

Organizer Tommy McEvilly says the festival is looking for sponsors, contestants and participants for all the events.
