Heat wave hits New Jersey
TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - June 8, 2008 To make matters worse, temperatures were expected to reach the
upper 90s on Sunday and Monday. Forecasters said little relief was
likely until at least Wednesday, when a weak front was expected to
drop temperatures back into the mid 80s.
The National Weather Service continued an excessive heat warning
for Burlington, Camden Gloucester and Mercer counties, and the
advisory was due to remain in effect until at least late Monday
night. Meanwhile, most other areas of the Garden State were under
heat advisories and excessive heat watches.
Forecasters said the brutal heat was spurred by a large Bermuda
high that moved into the region this weekend and was expected to
stay for several days. It was not immediately known, though, if any
record temperatures had been set in the state.
To help beat the heat, residents were urged to remain indoors,
staying in air-conditioned or well ventilated areas. They also were
advised to wear light-colored, loose fitting clothing and drink
plenty of water.
