What time of year do tornadoes usually strike?

Dateline article| David Murphy|

Although they can occur at any time of year, tornadoes are most common in the spring and early summer. Tornadoes form most easily inside strong thunderstorms moving through a warm, moist environment. It also helps to have strong upper level winds present. The spring and early summer is when this combination of heat, humidity and upper level support, or forcing is present.
